What is the Gospel?
The Gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ.
It is good news because Jesus Christ came to fulfill His promises to redeem humanity. Humanity was created through Him and was perfect, but rebelled against Him not long after creation. The world is broken. It is full of broken people who create more brokenness. All humanity is born into this sinful state.
In His great love, Jesus came to save us even while we were still sinners.
How did He do so?
Jesus, being God, entered the world as a man through the birth of a virgin. This had to happen so that He would not inherit our sinful nature. Why? Because Jesus is God, perfect and holy. He came to live the perfect life that only He could live. He came to declare that the Kingdom of God is at hand and to call sinners to repentance (to turn away from sin).
Meanwhile, in His great compassion, He performed miracles for the crippled, the sick, the hungry, and even raised people from the dead. God loves the world. He desires for sinners to repent so they may have a relationship with Him. Jesus would eventually pay a price that would change the world forever.
The perfect and holy Jesus was persecuted by those He came to save, even by His own divinely chosen nation. He was nailed to a tree by the hands of men, yet by His own will. He did this to shed His blood and atone (reconcile/pay the price) for the sins of those who place their faith in Him.
But it did not end there.
He rose victoriously three days later, conquering death and fulfilling His promises. He remained for a time to give final instructions to His people. Then He ascended into heaven and will come again for those who follow Him.
His final instructions included sharing this gospel. For the past two thousand years, Christians (Christ-followers) have shared this true gospel message so that you may be saved—saved from a death that leads to eternal damnation.
Jesus loves you.
There is no condemnation for those who are found in Christ Jesus.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
